Integrating science, emotional intelligence, and first-hand experience as a coach and athlete to create an evidence-based and deeply personalized approach
Jake Remmert, Ph.D.(c), CSCS
I hold a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and the CSCS certification, and am currently a PhD candidate at Florida Atlantic University, where my research focuses on optimizing per-session volume for maximal hypertrophy and strength. I’ve had the honor to collaborate with some of the top researchers in the field and publish research studies directly relevant to guiding what we do in the gym, which can be found on my Research Gate profile. Along the way I’ve received mentorship from some of the best in the business, including Dr. Mike Zourdos, Dr. Eric Helms, and Ryan Doris.
I’ve been coaching since 2017, working 1-on-1 with populations ranging from the average person looking to change their body composition to competitive bodybuilders and world-class powerlifters. Data tracking and analysis is vital for successful coaching, but just as important is building a personal relationship with each person I team up with. I’ve always said the best part about coaching is the great friendships I’ve made along the way, which - as cliche as it is - is a cliche for a reason; it’s absolutely true! And coincidentally, it also allows for arriving at the best results, in my experience.
I’ve been in the gym to some capacity pretty much my entire life - from doing push ups in the driveway as a kid, to inconsistently (and extremely sub-optimally) lifting weights for high school sports, to eventually finding my way in Fall 2014 and practicing consistent, thought-out training and nutrition ever since, balancing the pursuit of “optimal” with a sustainable and enjoyable lifestyle. I’ve competed in several powerlifting and bodybuilding competitions, and that experience is greatly helpful for my coaching practice.

“I've been working with Jake for the better part of 3 years now and he has propelled my growth far beyond what I thought possible. When we began, I was focused entirely on Powerlifting which lasted for about one and a half years with great results. After hitting my squat goal, I wanted to dip my feet into hypertrophy-focused training. Jake easily pivoted and offered advice to help me determine what my goals were. We then shifted our programming seamlessly to cater to my new goal of maintaining SBD strength while growing in size. He's proven to be reliable, adaptable, and incredibly knowledgeable.
Jake is a great coach, a great friend, and someone I trust to offer actionable and scientific advice while being empathetic. He helps to cancel out the noise which lets me just focus on lifting.
I'd recommend Jake to anyone at any point in their lifting career.”

“I’m a 74kg junior powerlifter from Austria - I’ve been coached by Jake for a little over 2.5 years now, and 2 of those years were for both training and nutrition. In that time he’s always really guided me well and helped me become the lifter that I am now, and breaking the 74kg open deadlift record which I still hold alongside numerous weight cuts that I did to reach that weight class.
In that time it wasn’t always just highlights - together we’ve tackled major life changes and injuries such a recent back injury that I’ve just overcome - but in that time he’s always done a great job of adjusting to my circumstances which has allowed me to make substantial progress during that time despite difficult factors.
I can really recommend him for anyone that’s serious about powerlifting.”

“I have had the privilege of working with Jake for the last year. Since our time together, we have added 30lbs to my squat, 22lbs to my bench, and 50lbs to my deadlift. I recently benched 300lbs for the first time which was something I never thought I’d be able to do. I am confident that Jake will make me the best lifter I can be and I will reach heights I never thought were possible. I am incredibly thankful for Jake figuring out what works for my bench, as it was very stagnant for years before we started together. We have done two meets together so far and have our third coming up in October. I am very confident that this will be our best meet to date.
Aside from lifting, I consider Jake a good friend without even meeting in person. I truly appreciate his interest in me as a friend and not just a client. I could not recommend Jake’s coaching enough!”

“I have been working with Jake for about 2 years in total now, and have only praise for the way he operates and coaches.
Jake is incredibly open minded with his approach, and will tailor as best he can to cater to your training preferences. He has a fantastic way of both guiding your training in the best way he sees fit, and allowing you to keep both hands firmly planted on the wheel, giving you full control, if desired, to decide where you want to steer your training. The lines between client and vendor truly are blurred, and I feel I can talk to Jake about anything and expect an intellectual response to whatever I put forward to him, regardless of his expertise or knowledge in that area.
I have completed 2 competition preps with Jake.
My first comp back in 2021, I had been tackling 6 months of moderate to high low back discomfort. Jake ensured training was structured in ways to manage the pain that I was experiencing, and make sure we were still able to derive a positive training response from the peak he was laying out. I was nervous coming into the competition, but left hitting PRs on all 3 lifts, despite the pain which was a HUGE win in my books!
My second comp, took place recently in November of 2023. This was a BIG win and a massive milestone secured. After returning to Jake to start working with him again after about a years hiatus, we hit a huge total PR of 52.5kg after 9 months of solid work, 100% healthy, and at 1.5kg lower bodyweight!
This past year with Jake has seen my greatest increase in numbers since I started powerlifting back in 2020, and I feel things are only just beginning.”

“Jake has been a great coach for me for the last 6 months now. I’m 39, I’ve competed in powerlifting, strongman, and bodybuilding, and at this point in my life I’m much more interested in longevity and hypertrophy while maintaining some of the strength and athleticism that I’ve built over the years. And Jake’s been great helping me build a program that’s really custom and tailored to do that, and we’ve been flexible too, which has been great.
I’ve had the urge occasionally to still compete - we’ve done a strongman prep together that went really well, competed at the lowest weight I’ve ever competed at and I was really happy with the results.
If you’re a strength athlete or someone looking to build some strength or muscle, you should check out Jake!”
